Permission for removal of specimen trees can only be granted by permission of the Planning Commission.

Because old growth trees provide benefits to all citizens the City has a Tree Preservation Ordinance. The benefits of old growth trees include reduction of storm water runoff, preservation of wildlife habitat, enhancement of air quality, and aesthetic benefits. Therefore citizens are prohibited from destruction of specimen trees. Specimen trees are trees of the following species whose diameter at breast height equals or exceeds these measurements:
