Upon receipt of an inquiry, an evaluation checklist form is filled out and referred to a specific person for investigation. That staff person will contact the inquirer within a week of when the inquiry was received. This may be in the form of a phone call. A letter acknowledging the receipt will also be mailed with the assigned inquiry number.
The filling of land is regulated by the City of Mequon Code of Ordinances, Section, 58-598/606, Engineering Requirements and Sections 58-671/677, Erosion and Storm Water Runoff. A permit shall be necessary under most circumstances. See Ordinance Website
Steps:
1. Apply for Filling, Excavation and Berms Permit
The City has initiated a Stormwater Best Management Practice (BMP) compliance certification program. In 1997 the Common Council adopted an Ordinance requiring BMP maintenance and certification. Stormwater management has been, and continues to be, a high priority for the City. This initiative is intended to improve stormwater runoff in your neighborhood, as well as for the downstream property owners. Residential and Commercial developments are notified prior to final plat or occupancy how the program works and the various requirements.
All requests for approval of residential subdivisions, commercial developments and land divisions require the submittal of plans to the Department of Community Development and Engineering Department for review and development of staff comments. The applicants must then appear before the Planning Commission to gain approval. Applicants are required to meet the minimum requirements on the checklists below.
Applicants are required to meet with Engineering Department Staff prior to submission of an application to appear before the City Planning Commission.
The City of Mequon, in concert with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR), has worked to improve the area waterways by reducing the pollutants contained in storm water runoff.
