Plumbing Permit Information

The City of Mequon follows the Wisconsin State Plumbing Code.

All plumbing work requires a permit with the exception of minor repairs to faucets or the removal of stoppages in soil and waste pipes.

Homeowners may do their own interior plumbing work provided they currently own and occupy the single-family residence where the work is done. However, they may not do their own plumbing during the construction of a new home or exterior plumbing of any kind.

Plumbers submitting commercial plans that went through E-Plans or State for plan review must provide one copy of the original State Approved plan with the Approval Letter attached to the cover page.

A contractor or homeowner performing work without a permit will be penalized at twice the permit fee. Work that is covered up before an inspection is done may have to be exposed so that the work can be inspected.

Required plumbing inspections include:

  • Inside sewer
  • Outside sewer - provide a survey showing where the sewer lines are located.
  • Rough
  • Final
  • Burying sump pump & storm sewer lines - provide a survey showing where the lines are located.
