Heating, Ventilating, & Air Conditioning (HVAC) Requirements

All HVAC work requires a permit and the City of Mequon adheres to the Wisconsin Uniform Building Code. 

An HVAC permit will not be issued until an electrical permit covering the installation is received from a master electrician licensed through the State of Wisconsin. The exception to this is if the permit is for distribution only.

Homeowners may not do their own installation of air conditioning units. 

For commercial properties, if HVAC has to go through the State for plan review, submit the HVAC permit and one set of plans with the State Approved Letter attached to the front sheet of the plan. State of Wisconsin Commercial Building Code.

A contractor or homeowner who performs work without a permit will be penalized at twice the permit fee. Work that is covered up before an inspection is done may have to be exposed so that the work can be inspected.
