Electrical Permit Information

All electrical work requires a permit and must adhere to the 2017 National Electric Code, NFPA 70.

Homeowners may not do any electrical work in the City of Mequon. All work must be done by a State of Wisconsin licensed electrical contractor.

A contractor who performs work without a permit will be penalized at twice the permit fee. Work that is covered up before an inspection is done may have to be exposed so that the work can be inspected.

Required electrical inspections include:

  • Service
  • Underground before back filling
  • Below slabs before back filling or pouring concrete
  • Rough
  • Above ceiling
  • Final
