Architectural Review Board

Any work that effects the exterior of a residence requires Architectural Review Board approval. Approval for commercial projects is handled by the Department of Community Development. 

Architectural Review Board meetings are held the second Monday of each month with the deadline for placement on the agenda at noon on the Monday three weeks prior to the meeting.  On occasion, the Board does meet twice a month to accommodate for additional applications, please check the attached schedule.

The Board has issued the Mequon Architectural Board Guidelines for Residential Structures. This document provides details regarding what architectural features are acceptable.  See Guidelines attachment

Items that require Board approval:

  • New construction
  • Additions
  • Detached storage sheds that are greater than 300 square feet
  • Detached garages and pole barns
  • Gazebos that are greater than 300 square feet.
  • Siding changes on a case by case basis.
  • Adding windows/doors/dormers, etc.
  • Changing the sizes of windows or doors on a case by case basis.

Items that do not require Board approval:

  • Decks
  • Fences
  • Pools
  • Gazebos under 300 square feet
  • Sheds under 300 square feet

After the meeting, if the Architectural Board approves your plans and you would like to apply for the building permit, please call 262-236-2924 to have the Inspections Department start working on the plan review.
