Organization Summary
The Southern Ozaukee Fire and EMS Department is a combination, all-hazard, municipal fire department in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin serving the communities of Mequon and Thiensville. The S.O.F.D. operates out of multiple stations, covering 49 square miles, serving 28,000+ residents. S.O.F.D. provides multidisciplinary emergency response to include technical rescue, dive and water rescue, fire suppression, vehicle rescue, and paramedic-level emergency medical services.

Position Overview
Under the direction of the Fire Department command staff, a full-time Paramedic/ Firefighter will respond to fire, rescue, and medical emergencies. Responsible for providing pre-hospital care to victims of injury or illness. When not accompanied by a Chief, the Paramedic/ Firefighter is ordinarily the highest medical authority at an emergency medical scene and as such, makes medical decisions based on standing orders, protocols, and orders from on-line medical direction. Furthermore, this position responds to fire-related alarms and other calls for service, participates in proactive non-emergency community risk reduction activities, training, station work, inventory, and equipment maintenance activities.

Qualifications
All listed certifications are required for employment or must be obtained within the probationary period with the exception of the CPAT. 

  • A high school diploma or the equivalent (GED)
  • A valid Class D or above driver's license - State of WI within 30 days of appointment
  • Is certified in WI as a Firefighter Level I
  • Is certified in WI Driver/Operator Pumper
  • Is licensed in WI as an EMT-Paramedic
  • Valid CPAT Certificate (Within 6 months of appointment or assignment to paramedic school)
  • ALS, BLS, PALS Certifications

Salary & Benefits 
This position’s current salary range steps are from $55,784 - $85,490 +/- DOQ. An excellent benefits package is also available and includes: health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, holiday pay and paid-time-off, education reimbursement, membership in the Wisconsin Retirement System,  "48/96" work schedule, and more.
