Fire Departments Receives Flex Grants from State
In July of 2022, the Wisconsin State Department of Health created a $12M ARPA Relief Fund for public emergency medical service providers.  Mequon submitted a grant application along with 442 other agencies throughout Wisconsin.  In October, the Mequon Fire Department was notified that they had been awarded $134,275 and the Thiensville Fire Department was awarded $67,735, totaling $202,010.  The money will be used to offset some of the startup costs associated with the newly formed Southern Ozaukee Fire & EMS Department.  Purchases will include two Zoll cardiac defibrillators, narcotic storage vaults, personal protection gear, miscellaneous durable medical supplies, a capital payment on the ambulance ordered in July of 2022 and some wireless dispatch terminals for EMS units to better track response times.  Below is a list of what agencies in the area received.

Daylight Savings Time Ends
At 2:00 A.M. on Sunday, November 6, when Daylight Savings Time ends, clocks move back one hour. While resetting clocks, it is also a great opportunity to check the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors.  It is required by State Statute for each level of a home or dwelling to have a CO detector.  As a reminder, (CO) Carbon Monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas that can be extremely dangerous.  Items in the home such as furnaces, gas ranges and gas fireplaces all produce CO.  Additionally, it’s important to have the chimney checked and cleaned and to make sure gas appliances are vented properly and clear of any debris. CO poisoning symptoms include headache, dizziness, weakness, upset stomach, vomiting, chest pain and confusion. Typically, these symptoms are described as "flu-like."  If experiencing these symptoms and the CO alarm sounds, immediately get out of the home and dial 911.
