I-43 North-South Project Progresses; Third Lane Opens

3rd lane opens in Ozaukee County

As part of the I-43 North-South project, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is reaching a major milestone and opened the newly constructed third lane on northbound I-43, between Highland Road and WIS 60 (Washington Street), in Ozaukee County today, Friday, July 12.  The speed limit on northbound I-43, north of Highland Road, will return to 70 mph.  Southbound I-43 is scheduled to remain open to two lanes of traffic through the summer.

The north-end segment of the project began in early 2022 and spans approximately 5.6 miles from Highland Road to WIS 60 (Washington Street).  The entire I-43 North-South project is scheduled for completion in mid-2025. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.  Learn more about the project here.
